- What are some of the false gods we are tempted to trust? We may not worship statues, but good things can become idols when we give them the place that belongs to God. What are some ways that money, family, comfort, approval, or even ministry can become more important to us than God?
- What does our response to disappointment reveal about our worship? Sometimes our strongest reactions reveal what matters most to us. How can disappointment, criticism, or unexpected change expose what we are trusting for our happiness, security, or identity?
- How does knowing that God protects His people change the way we face uncertainties? God's protection does not mean we will never suffer. How does knowing that nothing can prevent god from accomplishing His purposes help us respond to fear, worry, or the desire to control circumstances?
- How should knowing that God sees everything change the way we live? God saw Jacob's suffering and faithful labor, even when others did not. How does knowing that God sees our private struggles, unnoticed service, and even our hidden sins both encourage and challenge us?
- How can we recognize God's faithfulness when He has not changed our circumstances? Looking back over twenty difficult years, Jacob recognized that God had been with him. How has god used difficult circumstances to grow your faith? How does the cross help us trust Him when we cannot see what He is doing?
