Message Summary
God sends Jacob home to face Esau, the brother he wronged twenty years earlier. Afraid and overwhelmed, Jacob remembers God's mercy and prays for deliverance. That night God meets him, touches his hip, and gives him the name Israel. Jacob crosses the river still facing Esau, but now he walks with a limp and God's blessing. He is learning to depend on the Lord who has been faithful all along.

Consider This Week
- Is there a past sin I need to face honestly? Where am I tempted to excuse it or avoid its consequences? What would confession, repentance, and a faithful next step look like? Read 1 John 1:9.
- How has God shown me mercy I did not deserve? Jacob remembered crossing the Jordan with only his staff (v. 10). What specific mercies can I thank God for today?
- What is overwhelming me right now? Jacob told God plainly, 'for I fear him' (v. 11). How can I bring my fear to God and hold fast to what He has promised? Read 2 Corinthians 1:8-10.
- Where am I trying to control what only God can govern? What plans or abilities have become my source of confidence? How can I work responsibly while resting in God?
- What weakness is teaching me to lean on God? How does this story help me to cling to God rather than trust my own strength?
