The Faithfuless of God in an Unlikely Place

Genesis 36

Main Truth

God keeps His promises - His faithfulness gives us confidence to trust Him today.

Four Truths to Remember

  1. God's faithfulness becomes real history. God said Jacob and Esau would become two nations. Edom's history shows God doing what He said.
  2. God's faithfulness is greater than one's deserving. God's kindness is undeserved. Our acceptance rests on Christ, not on having a good week.
  3. The fulfillment of God's promise may seem delayed, but His faithfulness is always certain. Edom had kings while Israel was still waiting. Our eternal inheritance is worth more than present prosperity.
  4. God's faithfulness moves history toward Christ. God preserved the promised line that brought us Jesus Christ. The Savior who came to redeem us will come again. Live faithfully and look eagerly for Him.

Questions to Consider

  1. What uncertainty am I facing? What has God promised that I can trust as I face this uncertainty?
  2. Where have I seen God's faithfulness in my life? How should remembering it affect me today?
  3. Am I responding to God's kindness with gratitude and repentance, or taking His gifts for granted?
  4. What immediate appetite or pleasure is tempting me to compromise obedience to Christ?
  5. Where am I tempted to measure God's faithfulness by someone else's prosperity?
  6. What would patient obedience look like in one area where I am still waiting?
  7. How should Christ's return change my priorities, choices, and use of possessions today?

This Week

Practice Gratitude: Each day, thank God for one undeserved kindness. Ask Him to help you treasure Christ above temporary satisfaction and live ready for His return.

Verse to Meditate On

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)" - Hebrews 10:23
