Message Summary
Genesis 38 reminds us that God’s gracious purposes are not defeated by man’s sin. Judah’s family was marked by wickedness, neglect, and hypocrisy. Yet God exposed Judah’s wrongdoing and preserved the line through Perez, from whom Jesus Christ would come. Our sin should humble us, and God’s undeserved grace should lead us to repentance and worship.
Key Points: Our sin reveals what we treasure in our hearts. God exposes the sin we try to hide. God preserves His promise in spite of our sin. Jesus is the sinless King who came to save sinful men.

Questions to Consider
1. What do your sinful responses reveal about what you treasure most? Where have your desires become more important than honoring Christ? (Luke 6:45)
2. Judah was more concerned about his reputation than his sin. Is there anything you are working harder to conceal than to confess? (Proverbs 28:13)
3. Judah condemned Tamar while overlooking his own guilt. Where are you quick to judge others but slow to examine your own heart? (Romans 2:1)
4. When God’s Word or another believer exposes your sin, how do you respond? What would humble confession and genuine repentance look like this week?
5. God preserved His promise through Judah’s broken family, leading ultimately to Christ. How does His undeserved grace move you toward gratitude, trust, and worship? (Matthew 1:3; Ephesians 2:8–9)
