In Acts 2:41, when people came to Christ, they publicly confessed their faith in Christ alone through baptism. When they did, they were naturally unified with other professing followers of Christ and mutually submitting to King Jesus as their Lord. Joining a local church is not like joining a club or gym. "Membership" is an identified group of people who have publicly professed their faith in Christ and now desire to serve and edify one another under the authority of Scripture.

- It makes our personal faith in Jesus Christ public. (Acts 2:41)
- It demonstrates our commitment to Christ and each other. (Acts 2:42)
- It emphasizes the necessity of Scripture and our mutual submission. (Ephesians 5:19-21)
- It prioritizes doctrinal clarity and Gospel fidelity. (1 Timothy 6:2-5)
- It holds us mutually accountable to Christ as our Head. (1 Cor. 12:24-27)
- It allows us to function orderly and not disorderly on all issues not directly addressed in Scripture. (1 Timothy 3:15)
